1996

  • In June, The England Euro ‘96 single Three Lions (“It’s Coming Home”), which Frank wrote with David Baddiel and The Lightning Seeds achieved Platinum status selling over 750,000 records and then made music history by re-taking the Number One slot five weeks after its original release. The single was adopted by the English fans as “the new National Anthem” (Daily Telegraph), and was sung by capacity crowds of over 76,000 at Wembley Stadium and watched by TV audiences exceeding 22 Million throughout Euro ’96 - “Three Lions has inspired the England team and millions of their fans.” (Martin Phillips, The Sun).  The track also went Top 20 in the German charts and Top 10 in Norway (a country that didn’t even qualify for Euro 96’). The anthem was covered by The Smurfs and adopted by Tony Blair for a keynote speech (“Three Lions was so good I borrowed it for the Labour Party Conference”, Tony Blair).
  • In July, Frank travelled from Burkino Faso to Ghana to make Balls To Africa, a documentary for Comic Relief. The aim was to raise awareness about Africa through the universal language of football.

  • Frank Skinner Live At The London Palladium was released in October. This 18 Certificate title went straight into the comedy chart at Number One - outselling Billy Connolly, Steve Coogan, Eddie Izzard and Bottom.

  • The third series of Fantasy Football League was nominated in The Royal Television Society Awards for Best Comedy and reached over 6 Million per week.

  • A US version of Fantasy Football League was acquired for development for baseball, by cable giant HBO.

  • Frank was invited by Major League Baseball to play in an exhibition game at Philadelphia Stadium - his team mates included: Bill Cosby, Meatloaf, Ron Howard, and LL Cool J.
